As an advocate of mind-body health and a firm believer in the mind-body connection, I am so thrilled to (re)introduce to you all, Joelle Szlosek. Joelle and I were in massage school together, and have both become specialists in different areas of bodywork. Joelle has done extensive study in energy work, numerology, CranioSacral Therapy and SomatoEmotional Release. Not sure what that means? Read on for more info! Want to schedule an appointment? CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle, hands-on technique to release tensions within the body to relieve pain and enhance the overall function of the central nervous system. Due to its soft nature, CST can be effective for all ages, from newborns to elderly, in improving whole body health, performance, and overall well-being!

Using the weight of about a nickel, a CranioSacral Therapist touches various parts of the body to monitor the rhythm of the craniosacral system (soft tissues and fluid that protects your brain and spinal cord), and locate any areas of weak fluid flow or tissue motion and signs of dysfunction. Then, the therapist works to release any problem areas or restrictions found, ultimately allowing the fluid to flow more freely and the central nervous system to perform at optimal level.

CranioSacral Therapy sessions can last up to an hour with the client lying fully clothed on a comfortable, padded table. A typical bodily response is deep relaxation, clarity, feelings of warmth, relief, or a gentle pulsing in the areas the therapist is working on. An emotional release experience is not uncommon, and is in fact a huge benefit to this work. When the body is comfortable, and the client is in a deepened state of relaxation, a softening and loosening of tissue restrictions may also initiate the release of any emotion stored within said tissue or area of the body.

CranioSacral Therapy can be used alone or as a complement to other therapies to create powerful full-body effects. It improves your body’s ability to take better care of you and that’s always a good thing! It is widely used to both prevent and treat a variety of medial problems and conditions such as:

  • Migraines and Headaches
  • Chronic Neck and Back Pain
  • Stress and Tension Related Disorders
  • Motor-Coordination Impairments
  • Infant and Childhood Disorders
  • Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Fibromyalgia
  • TMJ Syndrome
  • Scoliosis
  • Central Nervous System Disorders
  • Learning Disabilities
  • ADD/ADHD
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Orthopedic Problems
  • And many Other Conditions…

Please note that CranioSacral Therapy would not be recommended for any conditions where a variation and/or slight increase in intracranial pressure would cause instability such as acute aneurysm, cerebral hemorrhage or other preexisting severe bleeding disorders.

SomatoEmotional Release is a manual therapeutic process to dissipate residual effects of past injuries and/or negative experiences from both the body and mind by locating areas of physical and energetic distress or dysfunction and then, facilitating their release.

It works to uncover and unlock negative emotions associated with trauma, abuse, incidents, accidents or injuries that may have impacted or been imposed upon the body with or without one’s awareness.

SomatoEmotional Release facilities the body in recalling and remembering events or injuries and allows for their release

This work is not always comfortable, but it can be the most fulfilling as painful experiences, emotions and traumas are freed from the body and no longer need to be suppressed.

SomatoEmotional Release sessions can last up to an hour or longer with the client lying fully clothed on a comfortable, padded table. The results vary from individual- to-individual, although the most common is a re-experiencing of pain or emotion that was present at the time of an incident, injury or trauma located in the area of the tissues being worked on. While not always pleasant, emotion and/or pain is encouraged to be felt rather than suppressed as it is a sign of healing and deep release. During a session, clients may fully experience memories associated with certain traumas, painful events or injuries and are once again encouraged to be present with whatever they are feeling, hearing, seeing, knowing or recalling with the intention of transforming and transcending the experience in a more positive direction.

If you are curious about SomatoEmotional Release, please trust the part of you that wants to heal more than the part of you that wants to hurt. Most often through this work you will find the lesson within the experience, which is the gift that you want to take with you – not the pain that you want to continue to hold on to.
