Life is short. There is no reason for you to power through a workout that you hate. This is why we have developed our unique business model to address all of your fitness needs. Offering yoga, barre, bootcamp, and Buti yoga, JTB has something for everyone. Or as I like to look at it: EVERYTHING for someone.

What do I mean?

Let’s be real, some of you like to barre HARD. And I totally get it. (So much so that I’m training with the amazing Kim from Anchor Barre to learn her secrets and bring you a brand new, cutting edge format for the new year.) I could get real deep into the benefits of barre right here, but I’ll save it for another post… (Ok, and Buti? Just stop me, I can’t. I love it SO MUCH.)

Let’s talk about bootcamp. First of all, we are lucky enough to have the most amazing coach on our team, Jackie. She is like a chocolate bar, a mermaid, and a shot of tequila all mixed into one. (Pick your 3 favorite things and you’ll get it.) Jackie lives and breaths her passion. She is constantly mixing up the workouts in her HIIT Bootcamp and Flex classes, and she makes it accessible to ALL fitness levels. Need a challenge? She’s your girl. Just starting out? Don’t sweat it. Working with or rehabbing an injury? She’s got you.

For my yogis out there, bootcamp is for you. Yes, I said it. Do you want to take your asana practice to the next level? Do you want to strengthen your shoulders, legs, and improve stamina? Let me break it down for you. Stronger muscles means an easier time pressing into those arm balances your yoga teacher throws out there every so often. Beyond that, it means the ability to hold a shape with proper form for a longer period of time. (Read: down dog is a resting pose.)

But what is bootcamp? High intensity, constantly changing, functional fitness including strength training combined with metabolic conditioning. Sometimes we work for rounds, reps or time. There are weights. There is cardio. There is sweat. (Tears? No. Maybe.) Want to be able to carry all your grocery bags in at once? Pick up your sleeping 10 year old off the couch? Do yardwork without destroying your body for weeks? This will get you there.

Moving on…

Yoga!

Want more tools to better manage stress in your daily life? Yoga. Want to feel taller and more limber as you move about your day? Yoga. Want to connect the mind, body and spirit in profound ways? Yoga.

I’ll let you in on a little secret. Historically, I am a psycho when it comes to working out. I’ve never had a ton of time to dedicate to being physically fit and I want the best bang for my buck. I understand the mentality of those of you who shy away from yoga classes because if you get one hour and you have to choose…. You want to sweat.

But if you want to improve your strength, flexibility, and overall quality of life (that matters), take a yoga class. Yoga is all about strength, balance, and flexibility of mind, body and spirit. Looking at it strictly from the perspective of an athlete (weekend warriors count here), yoga will help you big time. Here’s how:

Breath control– Pranayama will help you better manage stress, including when you want/need to get those last few burpees or reps in at the end of bootcamp.

Core strength– If you follow the instructor’s cues, you are learning to engage the deep core appropriately throughout your yoga practice. You will begin to feel long through the front and back of the belly. You will be able to protect your low back from injury and sculpt the abdominal muscles both in a yoga class and in bootcamp.

Increased Flexibility– Squat lower. Row further. Reach higher. You get it.

Improved Balance– (Refer back to core strength on this one.) Additionally, you will address and balance muscle groups in a yoga practice that might not be incorporated into a HIIT class. Learn how to use your feet properly.

The more hardcore athlete types tend to think that yoga is for wusses, and any class called bootcamp basically scares the bejesus out of the average Joe or Jane. Hit a plateau? Move your body differently. Rest day? Check out a yoga class and see what it could do for you.

I certainly understand that you are going to have your favorite class formats or instructors and want to stick with them for the most part. That is great- I’m glad we have so much to offer! I do challenge you to push yourself outside of your routine. Uncomfortable with the bootcamp mentality? Take a class and maybe it will change your mind. Took a yoga class once and hated it? Try a different style or instructor. We are all so different!

Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to help you become the best version of yourself.

Lots of love,

Jess
